(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - October 25, 2012: Mauritanian Air Force has received its first Brazilian-made Super Tucano jet fighter under a military deal passed last march with the aircraft manufacturer Embraer, without saying how many planes will be delivered to the African nation.

However, some foreign diplomatic and intelligence sources say that Mauritania will be supplied at least three EMB-314 Super Tucano light military planes which can be used for pilot training, reconnaissance, internal security, border patrol and counter-terrorism and anti-narcotics trafficking missions.

Equipped with an advanced laser inertial navigation and attack system, a GPS and a traffic alerting and collision avoidance system (TCAS), the Super Tucano has an integrated advanced weapon system. This includes  a centerline hard-point for air-to-surface weapons beneath the fuselage, besides wing-embedded cannons.

The aircraft also includes the Safire thermal imaging system from FLIR, which allows the aircraft to carry out night surveillance and attack missions. Powered by a PT6A-68A turboprop engine developing 969kW, the aircraft can fly at a maximum speed of 560km/h. It is also capable of operating from remote bases and unpaved runways.

Designed to operate in high temperature and humidity conditions in extremely rugged terrain, the Super Tucano is highly maneuverable, has a low heat signature, and incorporates 4th generation avionics and weapons systems. It is currently used by the air forces of Brazil, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Burkina Faso, Indonesia, and has been ordered by the armies of Guatemala and Angola.

Mauritania, which has a population of 3.5 million, is facing growing terrorist threats in the Sahel region which has become a safe haven for organized crime and terrorist networks.

After the Islamist extremists took control of Northern Mali, thousands of refugees fled into Mauritania, placing additional strain on resources as the country is itself rocked by internal turmoil and struggling with a food crisis engulfing the whole Sahel region.

BWF promote the sport of Badminton through an extensive and truly worldwide programme of events.  These events have various purposes according to their level and territory in which they are held but those events owned by BWF seek to showcase the Sport via the widest possible quality television broadcast  and build the fanbase of the Sport throughout the World. 

The world badminton tournament structure has four levels. The Thomas Cup & Uber Cup and Sudirman Cup are Teams Events. The others – Superseries, Grand Prix Events, International Challenge and International Series are all individual tournaments. The higher the level of tournament the larger the prize money and the better the ranking points available.

In addition BWF have responsibility for the International Calendar of Tournaments and Member Associations apply for BWF sanction for their tournaments in return for obligations such as complying with the Laws of Badminton and General Competition Regulations provides the Member Association with a date for their event and inclusion, if appropriate, in the World Ranking system.

Member Associations must apply to sanction a tournament at any of the above levels. The 
BWF Tournament Sanctioning Policy applies to the sanctioning of tournaments. Sanction forms for Level 2,  3 and 4 


Besides these, the Events Committee also appoints the various technical officials for the BWF events, Super Series and Grand Prix (including Grand Prix Gold) competitions.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - January 5, 2012: AUSTRALIA will hand over four unneeded C-130 Hercules transport planes to Indonesia.

The Royal Australian Air Force transports are understood to have been in storage.

The RAAF's inventory has been boosted by the purchase of six giant C-17 Globemaster II transports, so the smaller and older Hercules are no longer needed. The C-130Hs that will go to Indonesia have been largely superseded in the RAAF by the more powerful J model.

According to the Jakarta Post, Indonesia's Defence Ministry confirmed this week that representatives from the two countries would meet later this month in Jakarta to discuss the handover.

Indonesian officials will visit Australia to examine the aircraft.

As the country of origin of the Hercules, the US has also approved the arrangement.

In 2009, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono promised to increase the military budget after the crash of a C-130 in East Java that killed more than 100 people.

That crash highlighted the urgent need for a boost to the military budget to enable more rigorous aircraft maintenance.

Western security analysts in Jakarta said at the time that the Indonesian Air Force had about 28 Hercules in the early 1980s, but no more than nine were in flying condition at the time of the crash.

Military commentator John Macbeth said: "It's a very small number and they were hugely embarrassed at the time of the 2004 tsunami because they couldn't provide the airlift capability to get aid into Aceh."


The four-engine Hercules has been in almost continuous production for more than 50 years.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - November 19, 2011: The United States plans to supply 24 refurbished F-16C/D fighter aircraft to Indonesia, the presidents of the two countries announced in Bali on Friday on the fringes of an Asia-Pacific summit.

It was the second militarily significant announcement of President Barack Obama's ongoing nine-day Asia-Pacific trip.

The upgraded Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) F-16s will give Indonesia a "much-needed" capability to protect its sovereign airspace, the White House said in a "fact sheet" that emphasized the relatively low price tag, put at $750 million by the Pentagon.

Under a separate tightening of ties with Australia, U.S. Marines will start rotating through northern Australia next year, eventually growing to a 2,500-strong task force, the two governments said during a visit by Obama before he flew to neighboring Indonesia for the summit with leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Jakarta was seeking more capable F-16s able to carry out operations "in the outermost border regions of Indonesia."

The air force's existing fleet of 10 F-16 A/Bs cannot do this, the agency said in a mandatory notice of the tentative deal to the U.S. Congress. It put the estimated cost at $750 million. The aircraft are from excess U.S. inventory.

"The proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a strategic partner that has been, and continues to be, an important force for economic progress in Southeast Asia," the notice to lawmakers said.

The White House said the plan was to start deliveries by July 2014, as requested by Jakarta. The deal would help boost Indonesia air defenses significantly "without compromising the defense budget and other national priorities," it said.

The transfer of F-16C/D models to Indonesia may raise new questions about Obama's refusal to meet Taiwan's standing request for 66 new F-16C/Ds of its own to help deter China, which regards the island as a rogue province.

The Obama administration in September notified Congress of a proposed $5.85 billion weapons package for Taiwan, including upgrades of 145 F-16 A/B fighters but none of the C/D models that Taiwan has sought.

Obama said on Thursday in Canberra the U.S. military would expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific despite budget austerity, declaring the United States was "here to stay" as a Pacific power that would help shape the region's future.

The F-16 deal involves the overhaul of 28 United Technologies Corp (UTX.N) Pratt & Whitney engines including spares. The aircraft will have the most advanced "Modular Mission Computer" produced by Raytheon Co (RTN.N), along with improved radar, avionics and the capability to carry and field more advanced weaponry and sensors, the White House said.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - August 31, 2011: South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin is to visit Indonesia early next month to seal a US$1 billion deal that would result in South Korea's first submarine exports. If the deal is secured, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine, which is likely to be chosen as the preferred bidder by the Indonesian government, will sign a memorandum of understanding to sell three 1,400-ton submarines to the Southeast Asian country, ministry officials said.

Kim will accompany nine Korean defense contractors, including Daewoo, from Sept. 7 to Sept. 9 and hold talks with his Indonesian counterpart, Purnomo Yusgiantoro, on the country's modernization project for its naval fleet.

The US$1.08 billion submarine acquisition program, regarded as a goldmine for defense contractors, brought about a fierce bidding war in which Daewoo reportedly beat German and French firms.

“The Type 209 submarine, which the Indonesian government is willing to purchase, was first developed by the Germans in the early 1970s and Korea bought the technology license to produce it in the beginning stage. France is well-known for its welding techniques. The fact that Korea has beaten such strong rivals in the preferred bidder race is significant in that the country will join the ranks of submarine exporters. It also will brighten the prospect of selling more subs to other East Asian nations,” the JoongAng Ilbo newspaper quoted a defense industry official as saying.

The submarine deal would further boost the bilateral defense industry cooperation, following on from a contract to export South Korea's trainer jets to Indonesia.

Korea and Indonesia have expanded defense exchanges since President Lee Myung-bak and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono agreed last year to collaborate on development of defense technologies involving tanks, trainer jets and submarines.

On Aug. 1, South Korea and Indonesia began their joint technological research to develop new fighter jets in accordance with their agreement signed in April. The project is aimed at replacing aging fighter jets such as the F-4 and F-5 with high-tech combat aircraft. After the mass production of the fighter jets begins, Indonesia is to purchase some 50 units.

In May, the Korea Aerospace Industries agreed a deal to export South Korea's T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic trainer jets to the archipelagic country. In April, Indonesia selected South Korea as the preferred bidder for its jet trainer project and the two nations have been in negotiations on price and other considerations. A final deal will allow South Korea to export its T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic trainer jets for the first time.

SINGAPORE - March 27, 2011: The Singapore and Indonesian navies are co-hosting the 4th Western Pacific Mine Countermeasures Exercise (MCMEX) and Diving Exercise (DIVEX).
More than 1,000 personnel and 15 ships from 16 navies will be participating in the two exercises, which will be conducted in the Singapore Strait and the waters off the Indonesian island of Pulau Bintan.

The Defence Ministry said this year's exercises will, for the first time, feature multilateral information sharing and the deployment of unmanned water vehicles.

More than 40 medical practitioners from 10 countries are also meeting to discuss the topics of military diving and hyperbaric medicine.

Dr Ng Eng Hen, Singapore's Second Defence Minister, said: "Going forward, the WPNS Navies should continue to be proactive in building platforms and capacity in information exchange and operational coordination to develop their readiness to respond collectively should the need arise."

Singapore's Maritime Security Task Force Director, Rear Admiral Jackson Chia, who is also one of the co-directors of the exercises, explained why readiness and collaboration was important.

He said: "We recognise that today's maritime threats are much more complex. They are transboundary, meaning that they can originate from one place and at the end of the day, affect another partner nation. With that, it also means that no single agency or no single nation can deal with the threats effectively alone."

INDONESIA AND CHINA ON TUESDAY AGREED TO STRENGTHEN THEIR DEFENSE COOPERATION, INCLUDING THE JOINT PRODUCTION OF MISSILES, THE ANTARA NEWS AGENCY REPORTED.

Indonesian Deputy Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Chen Qiufa, head of the Chinese Technological and Industrial Development Agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the technical cooperation in the defense sector.

The agreement includes the supplying of military equipments, transfer of technology of certain military equipment, joint-marketing, and training programs, according to Brig.Gen. Wayan Midhio, spokesman for the Defense Minsitry.

Indonesia and China also agreed on establishing a joint-missile production in the future through strategic weaponry industry. The Indonesian army currently uses Chinese made missiles.

The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) equipped some of its warships with the Chinese C-802 rockets. China is recognized worldwide for it successful development of military equipment.

The Asian giant has been able to develop a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) called Dong Feng 21 (DF-21), which is two-stage, solid-propellant, single-warhead system.

On Thursday, Indonesia announced that it plans to produce 1,000 R122 rockets to support its defense system through the Technology Assessment and Application Agency.

The project would be carried out from 2012 to 2014, time in which the Indonesian government also plans to develop a "remote pilot vehicle" and an "area vehicle" as well.
